Flower power was the in-thing in the 1950’s and 60’s and Altea was one of the centres where Bohemian types congregated. Altea, with its quiet and hospitable people, gradually became a centre of attraction for artists and musicians who lazed in the Mediterranean sunshine.
The town is built on a hill offering picturesque panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding towns. Being a fishing port the town has a marina and offers all types of nautical sports – from swimming to snorkelling, from sailing to jet-skiing. Several excellent golf courses are nearby in the magnificent surrounding countryside.
For those who seek an active night life the famous Benidorm resort is only a few kilometres away – a bustling, buzzing town that is a complete contrast to peaceful Altea.
